Review: The Orphan(2009)

Via IMDb

Omen revisted? Maybe. But this is no religious shit. Its a damn straight domestic horror movie involving an uber intelligent child whose maturity beyond years is creepy. Plus she is anything but an innocent 9yr old.

So as you can sense the plot is fairly straight. A couple lose a child. To overcome that they adopt a 9yr old girl. But she isnt as innocent as she looked initially.

So the psychological thriller takes you through some old n some unique twist n turns before the final surprise ending which i didnt felt was right. I would love to talk more but you have to see this movie with as little knowledge as possible to enjoy fully.

Directed by jaume collet serra who had directed house of wax before this. Turns out this is too sophisticated n mature when compared to that paris hilton dud. A rare well done up studio horror.

When you look at the acting part you realize the two girls have made this movie as effective as it is seeming right now. Most people have praised vera fermiga more than isabelle fuhrman. But i disagree. Isabelle has trumped everybody in the acting stakes n makes us believe that a child can be as bad. To put things in perspective she was 11 when she was filming the movie!!! Mature mature act.....

Not an out n out horror movie but once it gets you engrossed it is very hard to look away from the screen right till the not so great ending. Still its just my opinion. Plus its heroes n heroine too have their dark sides well fledged out. Nice to see. Grey vs grey. Instead of good vs evil.

Cinematography background score n editing all make this movie very interesting. A little slow the first thirty minutes but great next one and half hours. Watch this asap :)

HighTension meter- 8.3/10.
