A group of high school students are being hunted down by a killer named Cinderhella and have a couple of their friends murdered which leads to them being detained on suspicion. But with the world about to come to an end they have to find a way to escape detention and save the world.....
What??? That's the first question I asked myself after seeing and absorbing this. And I realized theres no definite answer. Cos you cant put this movie in a line or a sentence. Its a mishmash of several horror and scifi movies with its own unique voice. Countless pop references and 90's cultural references and scenes parodying some famous horror movies like Scream. And even some chick flicks. And time travel plus a bomb blast that can end the world. Its just amazing how many movies I have seen in this 93 minutes of exhilarating roller-coaster ride. And that's exactly what makes me go WHAT? But its all ok considering i've been entertained.
Director and co-writer Joseph Kahn(Torque) shows his music video background by starting of with an excellent start credit which gives us a glimpse of whats to come later in the movie. And after that its all a mad fun ride with witty characters and some amazingly bizarre sequences and quick change of scenarios as we move from one movie to another in the same film. It could have all gone awry but Joseph with screenwriter Mark Palermo bring control whenever it starts to look messy. No horror this. Its a comedy sci fi with a killer on the loose concept just for a couple of scenes. Where's the time to dwell on the killer when you have to go back in time to save the world and give birth to yourself? One of the most original movies to come in quite sometime,the director and writer have really done the indie scene proud. Well done....
The acting is simply phenomenal. These young indie actors have done themselves proud. There remains an untapped pool of talented actors and actresses in those D2V movies which mostly mistake for bad acting and poor production skills. Not this. The acting led by the Hunger Games star Josh Hutcherson(Clapton Davis) and the Conjuring star Shanley Caswell(Riley) is awesome. They act their heart out and enjoy themselves as we enjoy too. Spencer Locke(Ione) and Dane Crook(Verge) are the other honourary mentions in this starcast. And not once will you feel that this a D2V. But considering the D2V is going to be the future I think this has to be expected. Well done cast....
As for cinematography its pretty nice. But the real cheer goes to the editing and special effects. The pacy editing and effects on a shoestring budget give this a very nice feel. Kinda would have looked good in a theatre. And with a pretty decent musical score to back it up,it ranks as one of the best of 2012...
HighTension Verdict: If you have been tired of cliched horror and horror-com this will wake up from your slumber. Some fine parody with a unique spin to integrate many films in one movie and a comic, although brief,killer which doesn't evoke any sense of dread whatsoever. And a funny storyline and dialogues with great special effects which turns the horror tag given to it obsolete. I am no lover of horror-com but i enjoyed it.

Do you ever unpack the boxes? asks the gorgeous Julie from next door. Apparently they are running from something. And this new house has a big bottomless hole which is accidentally discovered by the brothers. What are they running from? And whats the secret behind the bottomless hole in their house? This movie answers these questions albeit a tad slowly.
This movie isn't listed as horror on IMDb. But it is on wikipedia. But with a tagline that says "What are you so afraid of" its gotta be on the horror list. And that hole looks creepy. And I must say it has some very creepy moments for a non horror movie. But its in the middle where not much happens and it turns into a drama unable to up the creep factor. Maybe it wasn't meant to be a horror movie afterall. But it had a great premise to show more than it actually did. PG 13 sucks.

Joe Dante (Gremlins n Gremlins2) directs this fantasy horror. As his film repertoire suggests he is no stranger to horror. Especially comedic horror. And in this he uses his expertise to great advantage. He creates situations which looks creepy on the outset but makes you laugh by the time the scene ends. And writer Mark Smith helps him in a creating a movie with so much meaning and depth. It hit home for me. And even a killer clown makes an appearance. Which makes it even better. Well done Joe n Mark.
The young cast is extremely talented. Especially the two boys who have the most work to do. Chris Massoglia(Dane) n his small brother played by Nathan Gamble(Lucas) do excellent work. As does their mom played by Teri Polo(Susan). They all are running away from their fight and nobody is happy about it. And all the moving is straining the relations between Susan and Dane. And then arrives the girl next door Haley Bennett(Julie). And more importantly the hole is discovered. We should count the hole as an actor in this one cos its the epicentre on which the whole movie revolves. A symbol of loss and hope. Of courage and fear. So well done cast. One thing which caught my eye was cinematography. Excellent work by Theo Sande. He has Cruel Intentions and Blade on his resume. So no surprises there. The music score isn't as good. While editing is decent. HighTension Verdict: As a movie on high on symbolism it interests me. But as a horror it doesn't cos its too damn slow. But a couple of scary scenes with great chemistry between the actors and a very good ending that hit home for me it isn't a bad proposition. SO....

Dead tired of all the serious movies I wanted to see a comedy. And there are very few good comedies nowadays. And very few new comedies which are good n I've not seen. And this was one of them. I gladly gave it a watch after seeing the star cast n hell it was damn enjoyable. I didn't laugh my ass off but i enjoyed it. SYNOPSIS: Three friends conspire to murder their awful bosses when they realize they are standing in the way of their happiness. Nice work by the screenwriters to give us not an out n out insane comedy like the Hangover but something more sinister than it seems to be. Behind the laughter n foolishness was some really uncomfortable truths. And I always enjoy movies which make me use my brain. All the characters are developed pretty strongly n especially the villainous bosses. We care about our heroes cos we realize that these bosses are absolutely way more hateable than the horrible tag suggests. So pretty good pacy script with some laughs. Direction by Seth Gordon is excellent. Full of zest n energy as we are fully behind our heroes as they plan to murder their bosses. He makes us root for things we usually wont do but some of us did think about murdering our bosses,didnt we?. N he brings that infront us as we identify with the characters who want nothing more but respect n promotion from their bosses. From that bitter truth he tries to bring laughs but those are few but some of those scenes are mindblowingy funny. And the acting department is full of talent. Kevin Spacey, Jennifer Aniston, Colin Farrell as the three bosses are very very good. Especially Kevin who only implies promotion never actually giving them. Our heroes are Jason Bateman, Charlie Day, Jason Sudeikis troubled by the respective bosses. Very well done by the trio as we really care about them n sometimes even egging them on to kill their bosses. Jason n Charlie are the standout performers. One is being heckled by Kevin other being violated by Jennifer. And Jennifer does act well. She is hot as the maneating dentist having hots for her assistant. Sudeikis n Farrell are the third enemy pair. Both try but arent as good as the former. Jamie Foxx makes an appearance as a murder consultant and as always he's a delight. Cinematography is pretty good. Especially some skyline scenes at night are well captured. Music is decent as well. And the credit song in the start is nice. ALL IN ALL a pretty decent comedy with few good laughs n more brain n dirty words than most of its modern ilk. HighTension Meter- 7/10.

Well i probably don't like horror comedies. I want my horror to be as serious as possible. There are inane comedies all around. Horror needs to scare not make people laugh,imho. But nevertheless i am a sucker for innovative ideas n wouldn't blink an eyelid before endorsing one. If i don't personally watch the movie.
And so on that note i present a zomedy(my word for a zombie comedy) which I discovered quite late in the day. I don't know how many of you have seen it,but i think i would try to catch it even if my pre existing rules don't allow me to :)
A smart indie zomedy which deals with quite hilariously the eating addiction of a zombie. Yeah. Thats right. His friends want him to stop eating,he cant say no. And then during a party bodies pile up leading his friends to believe that he is behind it. But is he???
