With all the great things i heard about Trick r Treat i watched it with high expectations. And it didnt fulfill my expectations but did enough to make me recommend it to all my friends. Its a pretty good Halloween movie, with a kind of old world charm.
Synopsis: Four interwoven stories that occur on Halloween:
An everyday high school principal has a secret life
as a serial killer; a college virgin might have just
met the one guy for her; a group of teenagers pull
a mean prank; a woman who loathes the night
has to contend with her holiday-obsessed husband.
Now most of the people have liked this stuff. Why not me? So for people who don't follow Halloween, this won't cut it out for you. And that's what happened with me. Plus the comedy horror thing just leaves me annoyed. I can't take comedy and horror in the same movie. A couple of funny dialogues here n there is ok but funny sub plots not ok.
Other than these two things the movie as a whole was nice. The story n screenplay were damn good. No surprise cos it was written n directed by Michael Dougherty who co wrote Superman Returns n X2. The direction was masterful creating creep n suspense at every step.
And the acting part too was pretty nice. Anna paquin,Brian Cox,Dylan Baker were all pretty good. Plus some child actors have acted out their parts so beautifully that you won't like children for sometime. And the trick or treating won't be the same for some children after watching Dylan Baker :)
And now with an anthology with all its back n forth on its story timeline needs solid editing. N it does get it. All things get woven in seamlessly without looking out of place. And not to forget cinematography. Many of the scenes were shot in almost dark n at some places i felt i couldn't make out anything but most of it was pretty nicely done. An atmosphere of dread was maintained throughout with the help of some good background music.
So all in all if i was born somewhere where they celebrate Halloween i could have enjoyed it more. But as a horror its decent.
HighTension Meter- 6/10.
